Tax Income
Tax revenue generated from the cannabis industry has grown exponentially since legalization.
The City of Camas alone has missed out on nearly $6.8 million in tax revenue since legalization. This was figured by calculating out the percentage of Clark County’s population that resides in Camas/Washougal which is about 8.2%. There have been $184 million retail sales in Clark County since 2014.
Proportionally, that would be approximately $15.1 million sales Camas/Washougal has missed out on. The excise and local sales tax for cannabis is 37%, which equals out to $6.8 million in missed tax revenue. This is a revenue generating opportunity that could have occurred in Camas and were instead recognized in the City of Vancouver.
